Requirements for Obtaining a Marriage License:
• Both bride and groom have to be present to obtain a
marriage license.
• Both must be 18 years old or older.
• There is no waiting period and a blood test is no
longer required.
• The license is valid ONLY FOR 30 DAYS, including
the day obtained and the day of the marriage ceremony.
• The license is VALID ONLY in KENTUCKY.
• Marriage between first cousins is prohibited.
Requirements for Marriage License to Persons under
18:
• No person under 16 may be issued a marriage license
without a court order.
• If the bride is under 18, she must obtain the
license in the county of her residence.
• A birth certificate or driver’s license must be
provided.
• A parent signature is required for underage
applicants.
o If parents are divorced, the license
must be signed by parent with custodial rights (must
have court documents affirming custody).
o If parents have joint custody, both
parents must be present to sign license (court
documents affirming custody are also required).
o If parents are still married, only one
parent must be present to sign license.
Obtaining A Certified Copy of A Marriage License:
• A certified copy of a marriage license is $6.
• To obtain a copy by mail, please send a written
request with the brides maiden name, the groom’s name,
and a-round-about date the couple married.
o If a you are only wanting a regular copy
of a license, the fee is $3.
• Local residents may pick up a copy at the County
Clerk office.
Methods of Payment:
Cash, Certified Check, Cashier’s Check, Money Order,
& Personal check.
Personal checks are accepted in the
motor vehicle department for Barren county residents
only.
